Material recovery facilities are designed to produce clean, pure recyclable materials and are established to meet local waste management goals.

Waste is collected from the doorstep, sorted into different categories, and then sold to mediators who sell bulk materials to recyclers. MRFs have medium to ample storage areas to store sorted and fractionated recyclables and to get the highest resale value.

Municipal solid waste is generated from various sources, including domestic, commercial, institutional, industrial / commerce, etc. Material recovery facilities are critical to reducing waste disposal in landfills and maximising resource recovery and efficiency to generate revenue if adequate market mechanisms exist. They also extend the life of landfills and minimise environmental management efforts.

A question for you…

How do you think material recovery facilities can help us channel growing waste generation and make India a better place to live?
